Sonia Kahn - A celluloid exploration of Aldeburgh beach
With film projections from 8.30pm on Friday and Saturday nights!
Friday 9th - Sunday 11th August 11am - 4pm
Sonia Kahn stayed at the Aldeburgh Beach Lookout for a week-long residency in collaboration with St. Paul's Girls' School. A 2018 alumni of SPGS, Sonia undertook "A Celluloid Exploration of Aldeburgh Beach," as she spent her time working on an experimental film reacting to both the natural landscape and the town's history and a maritime nexus. Now based in NYC, Sonia is interested in reflecting upon the coast as a liminal point of departure and return, and thinking about how a sense of place informs one’s creativity. She worked with 16mm photo-chemical film, capturing the town, making photograms to directly print onto the celluloid, and developed using non-toxic processes incorporating the seawater itself.
