AFTERNESS
WE HOPE TO VISIT ART AND SOUND INSTALLATIONS AT ORFORD NESS ON 23 OCTOBER
Orford Ness is a windswept strip of land stretching several miles along the Suffolk coast with a unique path of white shingle reaching the North Sea. Protected by the National Trust as a nature reserve since 1995, the Ness is a decommissioned military testing site known locally as the ‘island of secrets.’
Commissioned by ARTANGEL, a group of artists have made new works created in response to the singular environment and hidden history of Orford Ness, including sculpture, drawing and sound installation.
Visitors can follow suggested walking routes that pair the terrain with the new sited and audio artworks available to experience.
Members BOOK YOUR OWN TICKETS IN ADVANCE FOR 11.30 ON SATURDAY 23 OCTOBER . TICKETS SELL OUT REALLY QUICKLY, AND CAN ONLY BE BOOKED NOT BEFORE TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE.

Samhain is a Celtic festival marking the end of harvest season, beginning of the "darker-half" of the year and when the veil between the worlds are more transparent. We will celebrate the harvest and cycles of life and death at the Aldeburgh Beach Lookout.
To end her Gastrosophical Residency between the Lookout and Timberyard, Miche Fabre Lewin will honour Celtic Queen Boudicca, with a Samhain Banquet from sundown. Do join us for this - details to follow.

We’ve had a wonderful series of Interns who assist us in the administration of the Aldeburgh Beach Lookout and Arthouse.
Our current intern is Melissa Pierce Murray
Melissa Pierce Murray's works arise from an interest in engagement and interactions, how specific objects and materials can facilitate and deepen awareness of ourselves and our world. Melissa’s ideas are motivated by studies in literature and physics, while her sensitivity to place and material arises from her roots in the Colorado mountains. Working across several universities, Melissa delivers interdisciplinary workshops and facilitates interactions between scientists and artists.
Melissa has received Arts Council Funding to develop performance sculpture.
Look forward to seeing you all during the month,
Love Caroline
