MONTHLY ARTS CLUB LUNCH
The Arts Club Lunch, Wednesday 7th September | 1pm @ The Lookout
The monthly Arts Club lunch is always on the first Wednesday in the month, so please diarise. It is often in the Lookout or sometimes in a member's house or studio. Please let me know if you would like to host a lunch - everyone brings food and drink to share! It's a good way for us all to visit members' studios and view their work.
SOPHIE LÉONE
New Member, Sophie Léone
Hi! I am delighted to be joining the Aldeburgh Arts Club. I was connected with Caroline through my friends Perienne Christian and SOPHIE. I am a local author, performer and speaker who galvanises women to take ownership of who they are and unapologetically show up as their authentic selves, by tapping into their desires, using voice and energy to activate an inner strength that's hidden deep within.
I am seeking deep conversations and exchanges with like-minded artists. I am seeking to ‘get on the road’ my One Woman Show adapted from my debut book from September onwards and I see this club as a wonderful opportunity to explore how we can help each other expand our artistic endeavours. I look forward to meeting you at an event soon.

Musicroom in partnership with FlipSide presents Hannes Buder
Friday 16 September, 7pm | Yew Tree Farm European Tour
Hannes Buder is an experimental musician, composer and improviser, born in the former GDR and based in Germany. He will be performing his latest work, ‘Outside Words’, as a prelude to Flipside’s ‘World in Motion’.
A subtle blend of the familiar and strange, Buder’s work is both compelling and disturbing, accentuating and disrupting strands of almost-familiar melody, and manipulated sound. Once you think you know where you are, you move on... then you re-group and all seems well. For a while. And in the end it is, but you know you’ve been on a journey.
7.00 Doors open | 7.30 Outside Words | Concert lasts approx one hour
Tickets £13 (inc. booking fee)

Herber & Co.
For me, Travellers Joy is a symbolic herb for this time of year. It is a herb that reminds me of a book of the same name by Juliette de Bairacli Levy, who spent most of her life learning folklore and herbalism from the indigenous travelling communities of Europe in the last century. Her understanding of these cultures informs the book’s beautiful descriptions of the world that breathes around us…water, air, purification, fire and herbs.
It is the natural world that intertwines all of our travels, giving the backdrop to the pleasures and pains of life. Like a ripple effect, when a stone hits quiet water, I feel this resonance throughout the practice I experience. At Poyntzfield, a biodynamic herb nursery for whom I lend a hand during the annual Arnica harvest, the biodynamic ethic is to work intensively by hand within a self sufficient ‘closed’ loop of sustainability. This summer I again experienced how their concentrated way of working enables pure interaction with the medicinal herbs. A unique relationship with the plants evolves where they have massive power to influence us and our bodies. It reminds me that Folk Lore and folk medicine is for us, folk.
These ‘hands on’ immersive ways of viewing life inform the ethos behind my woodland courses. It is at the heart of my practice, and has directed the way in which our woodland space among the trees and wildlife has evolved - a gently integrated encampment evolving gradually through experience, seeking acceptance from the living beings already inhabiting the space where we ensure to keep our human impact minimal.
‘Woodlanding’ is beginning for a second season along with new workshops and adult classes for autumn. All the workshops are designed for you to have fun, to relax and to experiment.‘Woodlanding' weekly sessions are set to include a full day of practical activities including green woodworking, tool use, species identification, learning knots, ropes and cordage, campfire cooking, making fire, natural inks, using herbs practically, tree medicine and creative activities.
