Sea Change, 2022 10.26 mins

Sea Change is a portrait of gallerist and all year-round sea swimmer, Caroline Wiseman, filmed over a week-long residency in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. It follows her daily as she braves the sea, whilst contemplating life, the universe and the act of swimming. The film captures the effect of the sea swim and the differing experiences and emotions as she moves from land to seashore, into water, and back out again.

Lost at Sea, 2022 11.21 mins

A few miles down the coast from the vanishing town of Dunwich, lies Thorpeness, developed in the early 20th century as a private fantasy holiday village by Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie. The coastline in this area has some of the fastest eroding beaches in Europe. Lost at Sea juxtaposes present day footage and experiences of living in Thorpeness, with excerpts from W. G. Sebald’s Rings of Saturn which describe the descent of the once affluent Medieval town of Dunwich, into the sea during a storm.

Into the Mystic, 2022 5.32 mins

Into the Mystic explores the lightness and heaviness of remembering, celebrating what is meaningful. Filmed at the beach in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, an area dotted with commemorative benches, captioned with dedications, each clip immerses the viewer in a different scene, overlooking the seascape and accompanied by ambient sound. The words, along with the natural scenery, highlight themes of remembrance, love and mourning. Immortalising these local people, connections between the living and the dead are continued by a love of place. Through this collage of text and image, we are made aware of our ambiguous relationship with death and its rituals.
